Re: Old Xymox Vs. New Xymox
Sun, January 9, 2005 - 10:03 PMI think I like the older COX better. Something about Anka Wolbert's voice, and their sound was more inventive. I particularly like the Medusa album for its atmospheric explorations. I love the thunder intro to Agonized by Love and the kettle drums used in "After the Call". When I first heard that album, it took me to a whole new musical space in my mind. I like the first 4 albums, especially Medusa. The others have good strong tracks, but they don't stick to my inner jukebox as strongly as the early stuff.

Mon, January 10, 2005 - 6:54 PMI actually prefer the early stuff and the late stuff equally
over the dancetrendy stuff in the middle. IMHO, Medusa,
Twist of Shadows, and Creature are tied at the top. I must say that the
releases since Creature tend to sound a little too much alike.

Tue, January 11, 2005 - 10:41 AMI like most of it, but especially the first three....
It was a bit disturbing that with Hidden Faces and on, they decided to become the new Sisters of Mercy..... -

Re: Old Xymox Vs. New Xymox
Sat, January 15, 2005 - 2:44 PMAnother song that really sticks to my "inner jukebox" is "Equal Ways" on their eponymous first album in 1985 (was it their first?). It has a "foggy" sound and a mechanical beat, which provided a good musical backdrop in my mind while visiting places in Germany and Switzerland in the winter a while ago. I'd play that song in my head while observing timely trams and frosty fog in cities like Zurich.
Also, when I was visiting that cathedral in Strasbourg, that spooky intro to "Stranger" with the deep voice chanting a latin prayer was running through my head loud and clear while looking up the almost endlessly high ceilings of the chapel.
"Atmospheric Rock" is what I remember the Clan of Xymox as being classified as by 4AD.

Re: Old Xymox Vs. New Xymox
Sun, January 16, 2005 - 1:10 PMI actually welcomed Hidden faces... as at least a return from
the Metamoprhosis style. With Metamorphosis, I figured it was
the end of the band. Songs like Wailing Wall on Hidden Faces
for some reason reminded me of Dead Can Dance... which is
always a good thing in my book.

Re: Old Xymox Vs. New Xymox
Tue, April 3, 2007 - 11:28 AMA really old thread, I know... but anyway...
I think Ronny finally outdid *all* his previous work with the album "Farewell". Unfortunately, Breaking Point was not quite as good.

Re: Old Xymox Vs. New Xymox
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 1:07 PMDefinitely old Xymox. When i saw them in 1989 it was one of the most fun nights of my life. But I have to admit, "Imagination" was the highlight of the show. I wish I had pictures of everyone who was at that show, i never see people that cool looking these days.
